Purpose

NWILL is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for volunteers and guests. The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to establish a culture of professionalism, courtesy, respect, and inclusivity at all in-person, virtual, and hybrid events.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all participants, including attendees, speakers, volunteers, staff, board members, sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, and guests. It applies to all official NWILL events and activities, networking spaces, social gatherings, online forums, webinars, video conferences, chat channels, and event-related social media interactions.

Expected Behavior

Participants are expected to engage respectfully, professionally, and in good faith.

• Treat others with courtesy, dignity, and respect.

• Welcome diverse perspectives and experiences.

• Use inclusive, professional language.

• Respect boundaries, confidentiality, and event instructions.

• Report concerns promptly.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behavior is prohibited:

• Harassment, discrimination, threats, intimidation, stalking, bullying, or retaliation.

• Offensive jokes, slurs, insults, derogatory comments, or unwanted attention or contact.

• Interrupting, disrupting, or interfering with presentations, meetings, discussions, or online sessions.

• Aggressive, hostile, or unsafe conduct.

• Posting offensive or disruptive messages, spamming, trolling, or intentionally disrupting technology platforms.

• Sharing inappropriate images, audio, video, or screen content.

• Misrepresenting identity or affiliation.

Accessibility and Inclusion

NWILL strives to make events accessible and welcoming. Participants are encouraged to request accommodations in advance whenever possible by contacting any member of the NWILL Board or NWILL Conference Planning Committee.

Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness behavior that may violate this Code of Conduct, contact an event organizer or NWILL Board member as soon as possible.

Reports will be handled as confidentially as circumstances permit. If possible, include a brief description of the incident, date and time, location or platform, and names of those involved or witnesses.

Response and Enforcement

NWILL may take appropriate action in response to violations, including warnings, removal of content, restricted access, removal from an event without refund, loss of future participation privileges, or notification of employers, sponsoring organizations, or authorities when appropriate.

Good-Faith Participation

Participants in NWILL events and activities are expected to cooperate with NWILL volunteers, follow applicable laws and venue policies, respect privacy and intellectual property, and act consistently with NWILL’s Mission and Values.

By registering for or participating in an NWILL event, participants agree to follow this Code of Conduct.
